My story
I have always been drawn to art and my path to painting has not been a straight one, but rather a gathering of experiences which culminated into acrylic paint on canvas. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to paint over everything. Walls, furniture and any surface, indoor or out, everything old can be new again or a mood can be created or changed with color. My kids used to joke about how many times I changed their room colors and quipped that I was systematically shrinking the square footage of the house with so many layers of paint. Paint and color changed with phases of life.
Eventually I arrived at a place in life where all else settled around me and I was able to let out the inner self with smaller brushes and a canvas on an easel. I cannot explain it. Each time I sit in front of a blank canvas I have an idea and perpetually feel like it might be too hard to make a reality. But, as I have always done in life, I break it down into manageable pieces of a puzzle and somehow it comes to life.
I have been heavily influenced by living in the majestic foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Taos, New Mexico with the ever-changing lighting, seasons passing and colors around me. I am currently in Santa Barbara in a 106-year-old house with a studio overlooking the ocean and a view of the Santa Barbara Mission. I call it my perch. It is my happy place where my imagination has no limits.
